The Aledo AdvoCats Run, Walk or Crawl Glow Run is a nighttime fun run in the heart of Aledo that raises money for a great cause. Bring out the whole family for a night like no other – participants can choose between a 1K or a 5K race (or do both!) that begins and ends on the Aledo High School track! Every participant is given glow gear so they light the night as they run. We will have food and entertainment before and after the race for a fun family night benefitting the children in our community. Ready, set … GLOW!

FAQs

What is the Run, Walk, or Crawl Glow Run?

The Glow Run is a family-friendly fun run that raises money for a great cause. Bring out the whole family OR neighborhood – participants can choose between a 1K or a 5K race (or do both!) that begins and ends at Bearcat Stadium in Aledo. Every participant can run by glow stations in each 1K portion of the race and collect fun glow items.  Finish the event glowing instead of sweating!!

Why do we do it?

Since its inception in 2006, the Run, Walk or Crawl has become the flagship annual fundraising event for AdvoCats. Choosing to support Aledo Children’s AdvoCats means your money stays right here in our community and provides vital services that directly benefit children and families in the communities of Aledo ISD. This year, more than ever, we are dedicated to our mission of improving lives and making a lasting impact. Don’t miss out on this family- friendly event that truly makes a difference in our community.

How does the AdvoCats organization work?

The AdvoCats is a volunteer women-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving families in the communities of Aledo ISD. An estimated 12.6% (or 1 in every 8 students) of the Aledo ISD population is economically disadvantaged. School counselors at each of the 11 Aledo ISD campuses identify students in need of assistance and refer them to the AdvoCats organization.

Where does the money from RWC go?

The AdvoCats have three main outreach programs where dollars raised are distributed:

  • Children’s Fund
Children’s Fund is the AdvoCats’ main outreach service. School principals and counselors identify children and their families in need of assistance and refer them to the Children’s Fund (CF). CF then works with the school district to provide assistance, on an individual basis, for things like medical or dental assistance, food, professional counseling, living expenses, scholarships, school supplies and school-related expenses or other crisis interventions.
  • Clothes Closet
The Clothes Closet is run by AdvoCats volunteers. When students are referred to the Clothes Closet, every family member living in the household is allowed to shop for clothes. Qualified families shop and receive clothing free of charge. The Clothes Closet is also a wonderful resale boutique that is open to the community.  We also welcome new or gently used clothing and accessories.
  • Angel Project
Angel Project is a collaborative effort between AdvoCats, AISD, and the community that organizes and provides Christmas gifts for qualified Aledo ISD students and siblings who reside in the same home.  Angel Project 2021 provided 514 children with presents this past Christmas due to community efforts to shop for gifts, make donations, and collect, sort, and distribute gifts!

Dedicated to improving the lives of children throughout the communities of  Aledo ISD.
